History of Warhammer Miniature Painting

The Origins of Warhammer

Warhammer was first introduced by Games Workshop in 1983 as a tabletop battle game. Over the years, it has evolved into a cultural giant, spawning multiple game lines like Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, and most recently, Space Marine 2. The game blends strategic miniature combat with complicated lore and dice rolling, drawing fans of both gameplay and storytelling into its vast (and overly complex) universe.

The hobby of miniature painting grew alongside the game. What began as basic base coats and highlights has turned into a unique art form. Enthusiasts (like myself) now use layering, washes, dry brushing, and edge highlighting to bring their armies to life. Competitions, YouTube tutorials, and online communities have helped refine the craft around the world.
